We propose a roundtable to engender insight from current public affairs faculty who currently manage, have managed a journal, or serve on an editorial board. Put simply, our goal is to offer entry-level faculty effective tools and strategies to be successful in publishing or reviewing. We argue learning from our peers can help to advance the work of our colleagues across the globe, in addition to forging new partnerships. For us, this roundtable serves as a mentorship model for entry-level faculty to invest in their future growth and learning. Our roundtable cultivates the necessary skills for individuals at the beginning of their careers to learn about becoming a journal reviewer, board member, or how to submit a manuscript for review. In turn, we build a pipeline of faculty vested in publishing public affairs pedagogy from a myriad of perspectives (e.g. human resources, budgeting, nonprofits, teaching, and learning). This also provides an opportunity for us to pay it forward, ensuring the future success of our colleagues, linking to the track’s theme to “foster academic cooperation and collaboration among institutions…”

The roundtable format includes lighting rounds (short vignettes from roundtable participants)

- Lessons of things we wish someone would have told us;

- Real-life examples of do’s don’ts to submit a manuscript from our respective journals;

- Strategies to become an effective journal reviewer or board member; and

- Provide an approachable discussion that engenders question and conversation from participants.
