Conference Agenda

Carbon removal presents a novel topic for the Earth System Governance community, as it could narrowly lock in incentives to delay decarbonization or offer opportunities to remake and catalyse climate governance efforts across multiple issues and regimes. The ESG Working Group on Carbon removal takes a ‘big tent’ approach to this topic that encompasses both critical and policy-driven perspectives.

With this meeting, we plan to bring together everyone at the conference who is interested in the topic of carbon removal – both members and non-members of the ESG Carbon Removal Working Group are welcome. We will update the group on the joint perspective paper entitled ‘An ESG Research Agenda for Carbon Removal’ which emerged from the mapping exercise conducted at the Working Group meeting at the ESG conference in Toronto last year (currently under review). In addition to encouraging all participants to share updates on ongoing work and policy developments, we will use the meeting to scope opportunities for further joint WG projects, including the potential for a special issue on ‘CDR through the ESG lenses’. As we will be using Miro-Board during the meeting, please bring your laptop along if you plan to join us in person.
