Panel 115: Meet and Greet: Academic Speed-Mentoring
10:50am - 12:20pm
Session Chair: Nele Marianne Ewers-Peters, University of Kent
Meet and Greet: Academic Speed-Mentoring for ECRs, PhDs and All Academics
Chair(s): Nele Marianne Ewers-Peters (UACES Graduate Forum Committee), Olga Litvyak (UACES Graduate Forum Committee)
Presenter(s): Rachael Dickson (UACES Graduate Forum Committee), Olga Litvyak (UACES Graduate Forum Committee), Kamila Feddek (UACES Graduate Forum Committee), Nele Marianne Ewers-Peters (UACES Graduate Forum Committee)
The purpose of the session is to give postgraduate students and early-career researchers the opportunity to meet and chat with more established scholars across European Studies research fields in an informal and relaxed setting. It will be a good opportunity to network and build contacts with others in the field.
There will be a ‘speed-mentoring’ session to facilitate quick exchanges and enable you to circulate the room. We then encourage sidebar discussions with those in related fields which can be further pursued during the wine reception that directly follows the session.
How will it work?
PhD/ECR participants will sit for 5 minutes at a time with each academic before circulating.
Why get involved?
For ECRs / PhD students: This is an opportunity to get the most out of your UACES conference experience and allow you to take home advice or contributions specific to your research and experience. UACES is a friendly and approachable conference and attending this panel will help you ingratiate into the vibrant community that exists in the organisation, meeting people who have been through the PhD, viva, job application, publishing and grant writing process before. It is a chance to tap into the expertise available and hear about the different approaches and experiences across the organisation.
For more established scholars: We would like to encourage as many established academics as possible to partake to keep a frequent exchange of ideas between the different generations of researchers. This is an opportunity for PhDs and ECRs to integrate into the vibrant community that exists in UACES, meeting people who have been through the PhD, viva, job application, publishing and grant writing process before. It also allows for senior researchers to exchange ideas, give advice and support to young researchers and to hear about the different experiences across the organisation.
To help us make the event as valuable as possible and match you with suitable scholars for the ‘speed-mentoring’, we kindly ask you to fill in this short survey if you think you might attend: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GFJXD2W.
