Session Abstract

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs will host an informal side event to discuss efforts by the U.S. government, the ILO and other partners to promote freedom of association and collective bargaining. This will include information on the Multilateral Partnership for Organizing Worker Empowerment, and Rights (M-POWER). M-POWER was officially launched in December 2022 as a collaborative initiative between governments, global and national labor organizations, philanthropic institutions, and civil society stakeholders committed to working together to uphold workers’ rights, strengthen the capacity of democratic unions to organize and represent all workers, and facilitate conditions for unions to be active participants in a vibrant civil society.

Researchers, academics and institutions like the ILO play an essential role in these efforts. It will be an opportunity to share more information about efforts to strengthen freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining, including through new research and international engagements. It will also be an opportunity for RDW participants to share innovative ideas and initiatives and to explore opportunities for deepening collaboration with the academic and research community towards these shared goals.
