Horizontale Zusammenarbeit auf der Grundlage von Open Values und Interoperabilität zur Unterstützung offener Workflows für Open-Access-Bücher – AG Universitätsverlage und Copim

Der Workshop gibt Einblicke in die laufenden Aktivitäten von Open-Access-Hochschulverlagen der AG Universitätsverlage in Kooperation mit der Copim Community zur Einführung offener Publikationsworkflows. Beispielhaft geben Berlin Universities Publishing und der Universitätsverlag Potsdam einen Überblick über bisherige Projektschritte. Die non-profit Infrastrukturen für OA-Bücher Open Book Collective, OAPEN, Opening the Future, und Thoth Open Metadata stellen Kooperationsmöglichkeiten vor. Die beteiligten Verlage setzen auf eine wertegeleitete Kooperation mit gemeinnützigen Infrastrukturen und offenen Standards. Dabei werden Aspekte von Finanzierung und Community-Building (durch das Open Book Collective & Opening the Future), Produktionsworkflows (OMP & OJS via PKP), offener Metadatenverwaltung und -bereitstellung (Thoth), Hosting und Indexing (OAPEN & Thoth), Auffindbarkeit (DOAB & Thoth), Archivierung (CLOCKSS/Portico via OAPEN; Thoth Open Archiving Network) sowie Nutzungsmonitoring von Open-Access-Büchern (OPERAS Metrics) beleuchtet. Im Zentrum steht dabei die Implementierung von open data, offenen Standards sowie interoperablen Diensten. Mit dem durch Copim praktizierten Prinzip des Scaling Small wird somit eine gemeinschaftliche Öffnung hin zu einem robusteren, nachhaltigeren und gerechteren Ökosystem für Open-Access-Bücher möglich.
Nach einer einführenden Präsentation der Workflow-Kontexte durch die beteiligten Institutionen laden wir zur offenen Diskussion der verschiedenen Themenbereiche ein, um mehr über die Hintergründe, Bedürfnisse und Empfehlungen der Community zu erfahren. Ziel ist es, die Anwendbarkeit der vorgeschlagenen Arbeitsabläufe auch in anderen nationalen und lokalen Kontexten mit deren entsprechenden Besonderheiten zu prüfen.
Anhand verschiedener Thementische, die sich an den Themengruppen der AG Universitätsverlage orientieren und die oben genannten Aspekte – von gemeinschaftlicher Finanzierung bis zur Langzeitarchivierung von OA-Büchern – näher beleuchten, wird Raum für tiefergehenden fachlichen Austausch gemeinsam mit beteiligten Verlagen und Infrastrukturanbietern eröffnet. Nach 20 Minuten wird zum Wechsel zu einem weiteren Thementisch aufgerufen.
Die im Workshop gesammelten Ergebnisse werden auch für nationale Unterstützungsstrukturen für Diamond OA von Relevanz sein. Beiträge erfolgen sowohl in englischer als auch in deutscher Sprache.
biografische Angaben:
Marco Winkler is a member of the Research and Publication Support Department at Potsdam University Library and coordinates open access publication projects at Universitätsverlag Potsdam. There he implements open single source XML workflows and is involved in a requirements analysis for open workflow management systems in the OA-WFMS research project.
Maxi Kindling is an Open Research enthusiast and information scientist. She is head of the Publication Services Department at the University Library of Technische Universität Berlin, Berlin, where the book division of the open access publisher Berlin Universities Publishing (BerlinUP) is based.
Bernhard Schubert (Universität Wien) is deputy head of the Open Access Office at the University of Vienna and also works as a lecturer for descriptive cataloguing at the Vienna University Library and the University and State Library Tyrol. He has been active in the Open Access movement in Austria and beyond since 2015. His main interest currently lies in the area of scholar-led Diamond OA publishing. Elisabeth Stadler (Graz University Library Publishing) is a member of the Publication Services department at Graz University Library. She is responsible for Graz University Library Publishing, the Diamond Open Access publishing house. She manages book projects from submission to dissemination and promotion.
Oliver Krüger, (Hamburg University Press) is responsible for the Open Access journal hosting at Hamburg University Press, the publishing service of the Hamburg State and University Library. He is also active in various working groups in the field of journal hosting and Open Journal Systems.
Jordy Findanis is project manager at the OAPEN Foundation, which runs the OAPEN Library, the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB), and the OAPEN OA Books Toolkit. Jordy’s main tasks at OAPEN include publisher outreach. He also represents DOAB in the Copim Open Book Futures project. He has fifteen years of experience within academic publishing, working as an editor at a university press in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Joe Deville is Professor in Science and Technology Studies at Lancaster University and Managing Director of the Open Book Collective. He is currently leading the Copim Open Book Futures project, which is developing a fairer, more sustainable and more diverse ecosystem for the production, funding, and preservation of Open Access books. He is also a co-founder and co-editor of Mattering Press, a Diamond Open Access book publisher and UK-registered charity.
Kevin Sanders is a longstanding, critical advocate of the nebulous concept of openness in the context of the academy. Recently, for many years, he developed and supported institutional strategies to enhance open access at multiple HEIs as a Scholarly Communications Manager. Kevin has particular interests in the politics of information, digital rights, and privacy, and he has exclusively published works on a number of open access platforms. Kevin co-founded and co-operated the Journal of Radical Librarianship.
Kira Hopkins is a Scholarly Publishing Outreach Officer at Copim Open Book Futures (Birkbeck College, University of London). In this capacity they implement Opening the Future, a Diamond OA revenue model for books. Previously they worked at Ubiquity Press, an open access publisher and publishing service provider, as a book editor, journal manager and partner account manager. They also work as a freelance book editor and copyeditor. They completed their PhD at the University of Oxford in 2019.
Toby Steiner is COO of Thoth Open Metadata, a non-profit, community-led metadata management and dissemination platform based in Cambridge, UK. He also works on collaborative outreach across infrastructures for the Copim Open Book Futures project and coordinates the OPERAS Open Infrastructures for OA Books Working Group. He is a co-convener of the Radical Open Access Collective and sits on the Editorial Advisory Board for the OAPEN Open Access Books Toolkit.
