Barriers facing Feminist Economists in the economics profession

Chair(s): Heintz, James (UMASS)

IAFFE received a 5-year grant from Co-Impact and one component of the grant program is a series of activities to identify barriers and challenges facing feminist economists, women in economics, and feminist economic ideas and research. These activities support IAFFE’s on-going commitment to create and put into practice an intersectional feminist economics that advances social justice, equality and the transformation of economics. A critical component of this program is to create space for feminist economists to share their experiences with regard to the challenges they have encountered, both in terms of their professional work and getting innovative ideas accepted. In this non-traditional roundtable, the participants will be given an opportunity to share ideas, experiences, and to brainstorm ways to identify and ultimately remove these barriers.

The facilitators will provide space for participants to share ideas and thoughts and what needs to be done to increase feminist economists in economics. This will be one of many efforts over the next few years to hear from people on what needs to change in the discipline of economics
