The mission of the EC3 Modelling and Standards Technical Committee is to advance professional knowledge and improve engineering practice in the built environment by fostering research, education and policy in current and emerging computing and information technologies [in Europe]. Some of the key ways of bringing benefits are through preparing policy papers, initiating research (sometimes with seed funding), and influencing standards and policy making organizations. Given the strong momentum of BIM adoption in Europe, and the various standardization efforts under way at all levels – national, European and international (ISO) - the committee is pursuing its first project in this area. The concept is to prepare a guide for Architectural and Engineering consultant offices/practices (since these are the members of the EC3 support organizations, or SPAs) to adopt and implement the practices prescribed by the ISO 19650 set of standards. The guide would incorporate a collection of templates for relevant documents – such as BIM Execution Plans, Level of Development specifications, Classification schemes, BIM contract clause examples, etc. We welcome all to join in our activity and support the specific effort on adoption of BIM standards.
