Monda is the name of a Portuguese pop/folk band comprising the musicians Jorge Roque, Pedro Zagalo and Herlander Medinas. In the group’s biography one can read: “The inspirational ingredients that distinguish this passionate collective are present in every one of their songs on the two albums already released: ‘Monda’ and ‘Cal’. MONDA is everything that the immensity of the South offers us: serenity, strength and distinction.”

Monda bring to the 32nd EAS Conference their contemporary artistic approach to the musical roots of the Alentejo, reinventing traditional sonorities through original composition in what they term folk-pop.

For this concert, prepared exclusively for the 32nd EAS Conference, Monda are joined by the “Cantadores de Portel”, a group devoted to Cante Alentejano. The performance will also feature very special guests: the pupils of Class 6º C from the Agrupamento de Escolas de Montemor-o-Novo. These young singers study under Pedro Zagalo, one of Monda’s members, who combines his artistic career with his work as a teacher.
