The International Music Olympiade (IMuO) is aimed to promote music education and creativity in music among European pre-university students. Its primary goal is to offer a platform for self-expression, and cultivate students' musical skills in a diverse, international setting.
The organization of the IMuO is similar to the International Olympiads in mathematics, physics or history, which are organized for students of general education schools. The Music Olympiad is designed for talented young people who are interested in music. IMuO is organized in every two years as a competition amongst individuals. The Contest takes place in two age groups: students aged 10-15 years and students aged 16-19 years. The Olympiad consists of three parts: vocal presentation, performance of original composition, a short test of musical knowledge.
The authors aim to present examples from different International Music Olympiads. The main findings are:
- · IMuO provides a unique platform for young musicians to express themselves and share their musical talents on a international stage.
- · IMuO fosters collaboration and community among participants. Events include performances, and cultural exchanges, providing a unique opportunity for young artists to present their work on an international stage.
- · The Olympiad encourages students to explore and refine their musical voices by engaging in a variety of events.
- · National and international Olympiads play an important role in supporting music education in the context of general education
