The rapid deployment of power electronics-based transmission technologies, such as HVDC and STATCOM systems, is enabling the integration of renewable energy sources and reinforcing long-distance power transfers. However, these technologies introduce new technical challenges in system operation, safety, and equipment coordination. This session brings together a diverse set of studies addressing critical interaction phenomena and mitigation strategies. Topics include sub-synchronous torsional interaction analysis in the South Korean power system using real-time simulation, overvoltage and safety considerations for coupled parallel DC transmission lines, and innovative control strategies for power oscillation damping via grid-forming HVDC converters. The impact of HVDC transmission on parallel underground pipeline infrastructure will also be explored, alongside advanced measurement techniques for harmonic impedance in VSC-HVDC systems. Complementary contributions investigate STATCOM control interactions with offshore transmission cable resonances and the development of wide-band active damping solutions. Together, these works provide valuable insights into ensuring secure, reliable, and resilient operation of modern power systems in the era of high penetration of power electronics. | |||||||
