In the "Junges Forum trifft Alte Hasen" format, personalities who have spent their entire academic and industrial professional lives in the field of medical technology are invited to pass on their knowledge and experience to the next generation. Young medical engineers learn directly from the experienced "Alte Hasen", can ask questions, and participate in a cross-generational dialogue. Parts of the event "Junges Forum trifft Alte Hasen" will be held in German.

This year, the "Alter Hase" is none other than Prof. Dr. Hugo Hämmerle, whose extensive experience and innovative contributions have left an indelible mark on the fields of biotechnology and medical technology. Prof. Hämmerle has had a distinguished and multifaceted career, particularly marked by his over 30-year role at the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute (NMI) at the University of Tübingen. His leadership at NMI was instrumental in advancing biotechnology, medical technology, and the strategic development of the institute, fostering innovation and the establishment of 15 startup companies in total, including ten in the biomedical field. Prof. Hämmerle's work is characterized by his ability to bridge material sciences and biology, driving forward key initiatives at the intersection of these fields. Moreover, he is a founding member of TETEC AG and Retina Implant AG and played a pivotal role in advancing tissue engineering technologies, contributing to significant milestones in the biotechnological landscape. Throughout his career, Prof. Hämmerle has consistently focused on translating scientific research into practical applications, with a strong emphasis on the biologization of medical technology and we are looking forward to meet and discuss with him at the "Junges Forum trifft Alte Hasen" 2024 in Stuttgart.
